I’m Performing in Almonte Now

I have moved from the Niagara Region to the small town of Almonte, in the Ottawa Valley.  I am pleased to report that my new website is now up and running.

Please visit it and read about my first performance in Almonte… the Save Our River Benefit Concert. This performance was on June 15 to a sold out audience at the Almonte Old Town Hall. (My photo made a local newspaper! )

If you are in the Ottawa area, please look me up and come by for a tune!

The Fitzgerald Shindig at Rockland Community Centre

Over the weekend of May 25, I traveled down from our new town of Almonte, Ontario to our former fiddle community of Niagara to open up a show for the Fitzgerald Family Band. It was a great show and the Fitzgerald’s were amazing, it was thrilling at the end to jam with then=m on their last couple of numbers. You can visit their website at

Here is a favourite photo of me with the Fitzgeralds from that evening:

January 2013!

An amazing thing happened to me on my 12th birthday. My parents organised a surprise birthday party for me! A large group of great fiddlers from the Niagara Old Time Fiddle Club came over to celebrate. The fiddle club has really been like family to me. There were 21 musicians (not all of them are in the picture) who showed up and many of them brought a guest. We played music, ate food, and talked all afternoon. It was an excellent day!

Lately I have started taking lessons from Karen Reed. I really enjoy taking lessons from her and have been learning tons of great music. Karen and I have also been working on my competition songs. I am really being challenged. I will be looking forward to playing them in the contests this summer.

Wally Knash’s Olde Tyme Christmas Concert

The evening of Sunday November 25th was very special indeed. I had the honour

of playing with Wally Knash at his sold-out Olde Tyme Christmas Concert.

It was wonderful and I loved playing with Wally!

It’s been a great month

The highlight of my past month was attending a Fiddle Camp and playing with three fantastic instructors and more than 30 enthusiastic fiddlers. The Orangeville weekend included Canadian masters (check out these websites):

Karen Reed

Cindy Thompson

Kyle Charron

I had a great time and look forward to my future lessons with Karen this Fall and Winter.

A few songs that I picked up at the camp I now have added to my song list. Frenchies Reel is a fun song and I love The Gale. I have arranged a special introduction to The Gale that includes Pachelbel’s Canon in D.

In the last few weeks I have played at a few nursing homes and my mother and I performed at a Club Roma luncheon that was very good. In the weeks ahead I look forward to playing with my friends from the Niagara Old Tyme Fiddle Club (the club monthly meeting is tonight!!) and with Wally Knash at his special Christmas concert on November 25th.

Back to practice…

Karen Reed Concert was excellent

I had a great opportunity to play with an amazing fiddler over the weekend by the name of Karen Reed. The show was a huge success and boy, does she ever play fast, it was awesome! I had the chance to open the show with Alexander’s Old Time Band, which has me, Cassandra Swan, Michel Mattie, Mike Mattie, and Natalie Picoula.

Karen Reed’s band is called Crossbow, and they are excellent with lots of energy. I also really liked the way they corresponded with the audience. To top it all off there was a jam. I am really looking forward to her fiddle camp, which is coming up in October. It was an excellent night.

Proud Member of the Niagara Olde-Tyme Fiddle Club

I really enjoy playing with my friends at the Niagara Olde-Tyme Fiddle Club. We get together the first Wednesday of every month – and a smaller group of musicians meet every week, for a Tuesday night jam. (Photos – I am performing at our Club; last Spring I won a Club award for most-improved fiddler)
